This post is from June 1, 2020. We had mostly stuck to church songs at that point so “The Wheels on the Bus” was a departure. But it was also a prayer for all the essential workers who were keeping our communities going – round and round!

After 365 consecutive days of videos, we’re going to count down the top 12 posts of the year. Why twelve and not ten? Twelve is a great number! There were twelve apostles, there are twelve months in a year and most relevant here – there are twelve days (not counting Sundays) between today and Holy Week.

Video #12 is from April 3, 2020, when we were preparing for Holy Week. Boykin sent Greg and Zan (and Otto) to look for tokens – little things – to represent the days of the sacred week. But things got silly. The music was composed and recorded by Greg. It is not a church song:).

In Children’s Chapel today, the Fiore family imagines Jesus’ time in the wilderness as he prepares for the work ahead of him. What sort of work do you want to do in your life?

Today’s Children’s Chapel marks a full year – 365 consecutive days – of cotcchildandfam posts. Tomorrow, we’ll start counting down the “Top 12” videos from the last year. Why 12? There are 12 months in a year. There were 12 first disciples. And there are 12 days (not counting Sundays) until Holy Week, when we will walk the most sacred days of the Christian calendar together, right here.

Tomorrow is “Pi Day” – March 14, 3/14, 3.14. It’s also one year since since we learned we wouldn’t gather for Children’s Chapel or church school or Rainbow Soccer or in-person birthday parties. We mark this day with grief, joy and … pie. At the Bell house, the pie comes from a recipe from the Pyewacket Restaurant that was once on West Franklin Street. We’re all sentimental today.

When Boykin was little, her grandmother would ask her to help “pull the sun down.” It’s such a brief time, between day and dusk, and if you pay attention you can see the sun set- or help pull it down. You can also pray one of the Daily Offices. Our Book of Common Prayer has a short service of Evening Prayer for personal use.

Oh my! We are enjoying the sun this week. We tried to engage our shy dog, Sally, is some sun skipping but she was … reticent. Where are you seeing light this week?

Yesterday, Greg brought in daffodils. Today, he brought in a chicken. What parts of the natural world are you bringing inside?

Are you getting outside in this beautiful weather? Are you noticing the new buds and blooms?

Oh, it’s a beautiful day! Get outside when school allows. Find something beautiful. Sing even if you don’t have words.
