At the Bell house, we had some self-imposed rules for our pandemic videos: no rehearsals and no retakes. That meant we made a lot of musical mistakes but also discovered some surprises when we watched the recordings. For this Easter video, I think we told Zan to “dance with joy.” He completed his jig with a couch dive.

This was a shout-out to all the essential workers and all the people working to make the pandemic world better. It was a shout-out to each of you!

One of the good things about this year was the way we came together even when we were apart. So many people made videos, told Bible stories, sang songs and shared prayers. Some of them are in this video.

To answer the question, “why is there a chicken in your living room?” we can only reply, “Why isn’t there one in yours?”

This is another early post, from a time when we really didn’t know how to feel and we didn’t yet know to film in landscape (not portrait) mode. When Children’s Chapel met in person (just two weeks before this post), we would ask the kids whether they liked major or minor chords for this song. There was always a mixed reply and so we would do both. We will not let that schtick go. When we meet again in person, we’ll ask that question again and the kids will get the same Major and Minor show. And while Greg doesn’t get any extra points for introducing the Picardy third, we salute that little education moment. It’s what he does.

Former Junior Choristers gave this one the views to push it to #6. “Dancing Day” was a favorite for many of them during their years of Lessons and Carols.

The Porter family shares our Godly Play Lent-at-Home story. Boykin and Greg try to sing the Echo Song without using that word we don’t say in Lent.

In May 2020, we were all learning to use Zoom. (How’s that Spotlight feature work? Where’s the Mute? Look at my Background! Could you move the cursor?) We were also learning to gather in new ways and shine our lights through computers screens and phones.

Here’s another one from March 2020. Things felt pretty gloomy – dark even. We needed some sunshine.

This was our very first post, on March 15, 2020. We started with the song we always start with in Children’s Chapel – The “Echo Song” – and the dogs told us they would interrupt lots of posts to come. We didn’t have a tripod yet; the camera was duct-taped to a mic stand.
