Holy Saturday

Today is the day the disciples felt lost and bereft. Bereft means missing something, and feeling sad. The disciples were missing their friend Jesus. They didn’t think they would ever see him again.

If you were missing someone terribly – if you were feeling bereft – you would probably think about some of the last times you were together, right?

The disciples probably remembered their last meal with Jesus, and the commandment he gave them to love one another. They probably remembered the way Jesus washed their feet with humble kindness.

A few days ago, on Maundy Thursday, this Chapel of the Cross family set the table for a special meal and washed each other’s feet. They were not able to go to church, which made them sad. But they were able to remember the ways Jesus loves us, and the ways our church family loves one another.
