Some hymns have multiple tunes. That means you can sing the same words different ways. Some tunes are used for multiple hymns. That means you can sing different words to the same melody! Our Episcopal Hymnal lists songs by first lines, composers and tune names. Sometimes the tune you think is the right one is not the one we sing in church. Sometimes the tune you like the most is not the one your friend sings. That’s why we use notes and symbols to write music down – so we can share songs with each other. That doesn’t mean it always works …
